Drone survey addresses both with dated, measurable evidence. A pre-construction flight produces the existing-ground surface that every subsequent cut-and-fill calculation is measured against. Monthly flights produce an orthomosaic and surface model that can be compared with the programme and with the previous month, so progress claims are backed by data rather than photographs from the ground. At handover, an as-built survey documents what was actually built against what was designed.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should a construction site be flown?

Monthly suits most projects, because it matches the billing and progress-reporting cycle. Sites in heavy earthwork phases often move to fortnightly, since that is when quantities change fastest and disputes are most likely. Outside active earthwork, quarterly is usually sufficient.

How accurate are drone earthwork volumes?

With ground control and RTK/PPK, vertical accuracy of 3–5 cm is typical, which keeps volume error on open ground below about 2%. Accuracy is poorer where the surface is obscured by vegetation, standing water or dense plant, and we identify those areas in the report rather than letting them silently distort the total.

Can drone survey replace a total station on site?

Not entirely, and we would not claim otherwise. Drones are far faster for surfaces, volumes and progress across an area. Setting out, precise levels on structures and points under cover still need conventional instruments. Most sites use both, with the drone handling area coverage and the total station handling precision points.

What do you deliver at the end of a survey?

Typically an orthomosaic, DTM/DSM, contours, a 3D mesh or point cloud, and a volume report — supplied as GeoTIFF, DXF or LandXML, LAS/LAZ and PDF/CSV, in your project coordinate system so it drops straight into your existing drawings.
